Check out the opinion column in Wall Street Journal from 9/29/09. Phil Howard makes the observation that washington is conveniently ignoring the fact that 200B/year (statistics form American Medical Association) could be saved by eliminating defensive medicine litigation. He further states that this likely not part of the reform initiative due to political ties with trial lawyer lobbies. Tort reform is likely a key way that real cost avoidance can be acheived with no appreciable impact to medical health delivery. Will it happen?
